About District 1840 Southern Bavaria - Germany
District 1840 has 104 Rotary Clubs with 5.500 members,
29 Rotaract Clubs and 2 Interact Clubs with 800 members.
The state of Bavaria has 12.5 million inhabitants and makes up 20% of the
area of Germany, thus making it Germany's largest state. As one of the
oldest states in Europe, Bavaria's history and culture go back almost 1500
years. The landscape is beautiful, with countless lakes and mountains,
historical buildings, churches and castles.
Some features of the Bavarian culture and mentality are remarkably distinct
from the rest of Germany: over half of the population is Catholic, the
Bavarians are very proud of their traditions including their traditional
food and drink, to which they attach great importance. The state capital is
Munich, where the world's largest beer festival "Oktoberfest" has been
celebrated annually since 1810 and attracts about 6 million visitors every
year.

District Governor Joachim Heintz
With great joy and sincere and cordial thanks to you and your Rotarian
friends in Brazil we shall release our young fellows from Germany to
experience unforgettable events you are going to provide during their visit
for the upcoming weeks. They are going to transfer our grateful thanks to
you from the picturesque Bavarian countryside on behalf of me and my fellow
Rotarians of the District 1840.
Getting this "New Generation" together in exchange with yours represents
"Peace through Services" in a very unique and humanitarian way. That's what
Rotary-World-President Sakuji Tanaka is promoting for the year 2012/13 to
come. Let me extend our full hearted appreciation to you and your Rotarian
friends in District 4630, serving as caring hosts for our team members.
